Stress is the greatest aspect that leads to the development of anxiety. Therefore, anxiety coping mechanisms are designed to target and combat the progress of stress.
Anxiety coping mechanisms don’t have to include a large sum of money for therapies and psychiatrists. These are practical, do-it-yourself and easy to do techniques but just as effective as other anxiety treatments once your mind and body get use to it. In fact, these coping mechanisms can be more advantageous because they don’t have to be brought, unlike medications, or visit psychiatrists, unlike therapies. You can practice them at home, or whenever anxiety and panic attacks strike.
Relaxation Techniques
These include yoga workouts, visualization technique, meditation and other exercises that stimulate mind and muscle relaxation. One very effective and useful relaxation technique is called Progressive Relaxation. In this technique, you will have to tighten your muscles for about 10-15 seconds then let it go. You’ll find it much easier to relax once the muscles are contracted. You can do it progressively from your feet upward, systematically relaxing your entire body.
Exercise
You may have seen a lot of people, after witnessing or hearing a shocking news, would say, “I better take a walk”, they are actually using an efficient anxiety coping technique. Some of you may think exercise is only effective in releasing the body’s excess fat. That is, of course, true. But another good thing about exercising is that it releases a great deal of stress and poses a good distraction technique from anxiety provoking thoughts and negative thinking.
Heightened Your Self-Esteem
It’s no question that one basic reason of stress and anxiety is a person’s low self-esteem and insecurities. There are a lot of people who thinks lowly of themselves and eventually degrades their self-worth. To combat this, it’s highly recommended that you think about achieving small things first before directly going for the big ones and if you don’t achieve it, you get disappointed and depressed. Anxiety-provoking thoughts easily boost once a person feels he’s not worthy or good enough. Start accomplishing small things at a time and give yourself credit for it.
Laughter
“Laughter is the best medicine” applies directly to preventing anxiety disorders. Surrounding yourself with positive energy effectively lowers stress. Practical advice would be to watch comedy movies or visit some comedy bars, even better if you do these with your friends and family members. A good laugh is always advantageous. It doesn’t just relieve you of stress, it even makes you look years younger.
Sleep
Proper rest and sleep should not just come as an option when dealing with stress, it’s mandatory. Without a good night’s sleep, it can be impossible to fight off stress and anxiety completely. You may see a lot of fast-paced people ignoring this and still perform their daily activities, but look how they turn grumpier or more nervous than usual. Sleep is the ultimate relaxation technique since it effectively replenishes and revitalizes your cells, promoting equilibrium, mental, emotional and physical relaxation.
